VPN, apps and location issues ("Fraudulent" status)

Why a VPN, a hidden IP address or certain apps get your surveys marked as Fraudulent, and how to fix it.

Your IP address must be visible

Surveys are aimed at people who live in a specific country, so survey partners check where you connect from. If your connection shows an "Unknown/Private IP address" — usually because of a VPN, a proxy or a special browser — the survey is marked as Fraudulent, Disqualified or Screenout. This is not allowed in our system, and if it keeps happening your account can be blocked.

Common causes

  • VPNs and proxies, for example ZenMate, Hola, Hotspot Shield, "Personal VPN", company VPNs and VPNs running on cloud services.
  • Browsers such as Opera / Opera Mini, UC Browser, Puffin, Phoenix, Photon Flash, Silk, Tor, Google Mobile and Edge.
  • Apps that monitor or reroute your traffic, for example other research or reward apps such as Media Insiders, Consumer Input Mobile, Mobile Expressions, Reality Mine, Savvy Connect, Survey Savvy, Mobile Rewards, Nielsen Web Panels, EOVC or Freedome.

How to fix it

  1. Disconnect any VPN or proxy, on your phone and on your computer.
  2. Disable VPN or proxy extensions in your browser.
  3. Use Chrome, Firefox or Safari (see Best browsers for surveys).
  4. Remove or pause apps that route your traffic.
  5. If the problem continues, try another device or another internet connection.

Travelling or moving abroad

While you are abroad, most surveys will not be available. If you move to another country for a long time, register in that country's panel. See Why can't I take surveys outside my panel's country?

If your account has already been blocked, see Account blocked or under verification.
